Assessment

The Barrington School District uses a variety of assessments to know if students are learning or meeting goals and grade-level expectations.

Assessment also allows us to explore we can how to improve student learning. It allows teachers to ask questions to guide their instruction. For example, 'How many students met the expectation? Should I provide an additional explanation or opportunity? Do I need to modify the presentation of the material?' Student assessments allow us to monitor student learning throughout the school year and gives us the ability to make necessary adjustments to improve learning.

Benefits of an assessment

  • Improves students' learning.
  • Identifies instructional, course, or assignment challenges.
  • Improves instruction by identifying what instructional adjustments might be needed.
  • Ensures grading is reflective of students' learning towards course objectives.
  • Makes grading more systematic and objective.

The following are some of the assessments used in the Barrington School District:

  • State Assessment System (SAS)
  • DRA
  • i-Ready
  • Program Assessments
